Over the years we've made various minor alterations to Bluebird, most of which are shared here. We hope you find one or two good ideas you can use or adapt for your own boat.

Helmsman's Seat and Controls

New seat showing original Wheel and Morse control

Helmsman's Seat

When we bought Jodina she had a tatty, none standard (but possibly original) PVC helmsman’s seat which sat on something resembling a scaffold pole fixed in the bilges, rising up through the helmsman’s platform. We removed the pole to below deck level and covered the hole by securing a standard plinth to the floor and fitted a new Blue helmsman’s seat.

Steering Wheel

This had the affect of bringing the seat a couple of inches closer to the wheel which made the steering position a little bit cramped. We replaced the original dawncraft wheel, which flared towards the steerer with a smaller, flat wooden wheel which provided additional leg-room.

Morse Control

The original morse control was a little stiff, which made changing gear problematic. We replaced this with a new control and positioned it slightly higher to improve the steering position even more.
